Ryan Mackie
Ryan is a Sustainability Consultant with nearly 20 years of experience developing technology and working with organizations on sustainable solutions. With over a decade spent at Ballard Power Systems, Ryan specialized in developing fuel cell systems for electric vehicles and stationary power generation before transitioning into consulting roles focused on organizational and community sustainability for the past eight years. His expertise spans renewable technologies, greenhouse gas accounting, mathematical modeling, research, and analysis.
Ryan has contributed to over a dozen carbon and greenhouse gas inventories, including compliance with various protocols, consumption-based analysis, ecological footprinting, and scenario pathways to achieve targets. Ryan has a strong background in renewable technologies, greenhouse gas accounting, mathematical modeling, research, & analysis.
Currently, he serves as Technical Lead on the development of two inventory tools with municipalities. He prioritizes climate action with clients, and co-authors research papers on topics such as circular economy strategies and zero waste initiatives. Additionally, Ryan sits on advisory committees for transportation access, climate, economic security in the capital region, and embodied emissions in Whistler, Squamish, and Squamish Nation communities.
Ryan also holds roles as part-time Technical Lead for the BCIT Centre for Ecocities and as a Senior Associate with Green Spark, leading the development and application of tools for community and individual carbon footprint analysis.
